Diesel Running on the WSR this autumn and 2007 plans announced

On Saturday 16 September the Class 14 will be used on the 09:40 Bishops Lydeard-Minehead and 14:50 Minehead-Bishops Lydeard additional working during the Camra beer festival at Minehead station.

For the Autumn Steam Gala between 5-8 October. FGW will be running Class 158 shuttles from Taunton to Bishops Lydeard on the Saturday & Sunday of this event. With up to 6 or 7 trains per day.

The Grand Trains Extravaganza takes place on 21/22 October and will see two Diesel locos in use each day from a pool of D7523, D6566 and D9526.

Through railtours visit the WSR on 30 September, 21 October,18 November and Dunster by Candlelight event.

2007 will see several anniversaries:

It will be 30 years since the end of Westerns and 30 years since the first run of a Hymek in preservation. Hopefully both locomotives will be ready with a planned outshop dates in the early months of 2007 for D1010 and D7017.

The plan is to make 2007 a Diesel Hydraulic year on the WSR following Diesel Electric domination over the last two years. In the peak Summer period a Diesel loco will be in use on Fridays and Saturdays as per the last two years. Two mixed traction events are planned. Friday 8 June-Sunday 10 June and Saturday 27-Sunday 28 October. The June event will re-create the changeover years from steam to diesel on the Western Region in the late 1960's with hopefully a visiting diesel hydraulic loco. All three days will see a mixture of steam and diesel operation with an appropriate Diesel Electric also in use. Sadly no 'full blown' Diesel gala for 2007.
