Just two years after selling up, co-founder and former Managing Director of the most successful UK-based tour operator, Great Rail Journeys, Howard Trinder is back on track with an exciting new luxury rail project - the Danube Express.
Having always had a passion for trains, Trinder’s latest vision is to create a Central European ‘hotel on rails’, a train that could combine modern standards with traditional service and ambience. Trinder was contractually obliged to refrain from marketing a rail-related business for two years, so was eager to get started with the project.
Marketing begins December 2007. With business partner Peter Hedderly, best known for re-launching the Trans-Siberian Express as a luxury private train, the duo boast a combined and unrivalled experience of 45 years of operating rail holidays.
The Danube Express will be the first luxury hotel train in Central Europe offering a sophisticated and relaxing way to tour some of the most enticing destinations the region has to offer. From its starting point in Budapest, the train will take guests right into the heart of an array of vibrant cities including Istanbul, Prague, Cracow, Vienna and Berlin: wonderful destinations of cultural and architectural heritage.
With new sleeping cars under construction, Howard Trinder’s dream turns to reality. He says, “Holidays on the Danube Express are for all those who love the romance of travelling by luxury train, as well as those who relish the thought of discovering European destinations on what is, in effect, a land-cruise. It will provide the perfect opportunity to dream your way across Central Europe.”
The Danube Express’ inaugural departure is set for mid-May 2008.
Price: A 5-night Danube Express holiday starts from £1,600 per person including flights from Heathrow, Birmingham or Manchester based on two sharing. The additional cost for First Class rail travel from London St. Pancras is £290 pp (including overnight sleeper from Paris to Munich).
