| South West Trains doubles train service to Weymouth
|
From 10 December South West Trains will be doubling the service operated between London Waterloo to Weymouth by running two trains an hour. SWT Managing Director Stewart Palmer said:“Doubling the service to and from Weymouth is a massive boost to passengers in South Dorset. The route from Bournemouth to Weymouth is a large and popular area of the south west and it is only right that we strive to provide a better service. With the sailing events for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to Weymouth and Portland in a few years I have no doubt that we will be carrying a lot more passengers down to the coast and the two trains per hour will help accommodate that.” Cllr Christine James, Briefholder for Transport and Infrastructure said: “The rail link from London is of vital importance to this borough and we are delighted to see an increase in this service. Businesses, both locally and from other areas will benefit by having more flexibility to conduct meetings and visits. The location of the station, coupled with the improved timetable makes it an even more attractive transport option for visitors coming to the town for leisure purposes.” On 10 December 2007, SWT Managing Director Stewart Palmer will join the local station team in welcoming in the 06.30 service from Waterloo (10.10 arrival at Weymouth) and wave away the 10.20 Weymouth to London Waterloo service. Under the new timetable, London bound trains will depart Weymouth at 03 and 20 past the hour. |
