The Ipswich to Peterborough train services operated by National Express Group’s ‘one’ railway are set to resume their normal timetable schedules from Friday 21 December 2007 following the completion of bridge reconstruction work by Network Rail engineers over the River Great Ouse Viaduct at Ely.
The line through Ely has been closed to services since June following the derailment of a freight train which damaged a river bridge at Ely. During this period, train services have been operating between Ipswich and Bury St. Edmunds, with a replacement bus service operating between Bury St. Edmunds and Peterborough.
Network Rail has completed the bridge reconstruction work on schedule for the train services to resume from Friday 21 December 2007.
Clive Morris, Business Director Rural for ‘one’ railway said:
“I am pleased that Network Rail has completed the bridge work at Ely on schedule for the Ipswich to Peterborough route to reopen from Friday 21st December. I should like to thank all our customers affected by the partial closure of the line over recent months for their patience and co-operation while the alternative services were in place”. |
