Investment in Skegness line

Network Rail is investing £1.1m on improving the tracks between Boston and Skegness.

The work will be carried out at four sites, three in Wainfleet and one at Havenhouse. The work at Wainfleet requires several road closures which have been agreed with the local council. Around 2.5 miles of track are being replaced with continuously welded rail between 10 and 15 February. Rail services will be replaced with buses on these dates.

Neil Henry, area general manager for Network Rail, said: “We have planned carefully to minimise disruption and will be providing a mini bus to take pedestrians around the diversionary route when the level crossing is shut. This scheme will have long-term benefits for everyone who uses the line. Passengers will notice a smoother, quieter ride as jointed track is replaced with continuous lengths of rail, there will be less wear and tear on the trains and the new track. It is all part of the ongoing project to renew the railway on the Boston to Skegness route."

The work is being carried out at half term in order to minimise the disruption to regular commuters.

Passengers needing service information should contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
