Ebbw Vale finally opens

On 6 February 2008, the £30m passenger rail service between Ebbw Vale and Cardiff, originally due to open in late 2007, finally got underway.

Blaenau Gwent Council said the first train from Ebbw Vale departed at 06.40, with the first service from Cardiff departing at 06.35. Trains will hourley in both directions throughout the day.

The opening had been delayed for two months while a number of infrastructure works were tectified on the route.

Following delays to resolve various safety issues, passenger services on the Ebbw Vale line finally started on 6 February 2008. On Monday 11 February, Class 150/2 unit No. 150267 stands at Ebbw Vale Parkway station (currently the terminus) having just arrived with the 13.35 Arriva Trains Wales service from Cardiff Central.
