| Severn Valley Railway re-opens following flood damage
|
The Severn Valley Railway has been officially 're-opened' in an event on 20 March, the route will re-open to the public on on Good Friday. The line was badly hit during last summer's floods, but following £3.5m of repairs the 16-mile line between Bridgnorth, Shropshire, and Kidderminster, Worcestershire, can operate again. After the floods, trains could only run for four miles between Kidderminster and Bewdley. Last years torrential rain on 19 June caused the line to be damaged in 45 separate places. But following public donations of over £575,000 towards the repairs, plus a massive input by a combination of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund, the railway has been able to re-open almost nine months to the day since the damage was caused. Spokesman John Leach said - "The railway will operate every day through the Easter holiday period and up to 6 April and will then run at weekends before operating daily from 3 May. |
