London Underground Managing Director Tim O'Toole accompanied by Chief Operating Officer Mike Brown officially opened a brand new, state of the art staff accommodation for train drivers at Elephant & Castle on 2 November 2007.
South London House located next to Elephant & Castle Tube station, has undergone a £4.5 million refurbishment to provide train crew and operators with a pleasant working environment.
The Victorian building originally opened in 1906, refurbishment began in November 2005. In its early years its offices were used by the South London Press.
The new staff accommodation provides Train Operators with a brand new staff canteen, an internet café, modern changing facilities, a new fully equipped Train Operation Manager's office and new Group Station Manager's Office.
Andy Barnett, London Underground Service Improvement Manager in charge of the works said: We are delighted to be opening our new staff accommodation at South London House. The results have exceeded our expectations and we are thrilled to be able to offer our staff a truly modern and comfortable environment to work in."
