The European Commissions agreen on Wednesday 7 November 2007, on the proposed acquisition of English Welsh & Scottish Railway Holdings Limited (EWS) by Deutsche Bahn (DB).

A EWS spokesperson said: “EWS and Deutsche Bahn welcome the decision announced today by the European Commission. Both companies look forward to working together to develop rail freight in Europe. The business strategy of EWS remains the same; to continue growing rail freight services through its operations in Britain and through Euro Cargo Rail in France.”
