No language barrier for GNER Fast Ticket users

IF you know someone who starts the day with a hearty ‘Dzien dobry’ or ‘Buongiorno’, East Coast train operator GNER has some good news aimed at making travel simpler.

GNER’s Fast Ticket machines offer users an easy and quick way to buy train tickets to any UK destination as well as to print and collect a ticket bought online via the GNER website.

The machines already allow users to select French, German or Spanish as the language used on the display screen … and now, Polish and Italian have also been added to the choices available.

GNER Retail Development Manager David Frodsham said: “We know there is a fast-growing Polish community in many of the areas we serve, particularly in the North East and Yorkshire – and at the same time we wanted to add Italian to offer another key European language option.

“Fast Ticket machines are all about making choosing and buying a train ticket quicker and more straightforward. We’re sure the new language options will prove invaluable to a growing number of people”.

The addition of Polish and Italian text as an option on Fast Ticket machines was suggested by the passenger watchdog Passenger Focus. Guy Dangerfield from Passenger Focus said: “This is good news for Italian and Polish speakers, whether here on holiday or living along the GNER route. "Passenger Focus is delighted that GNER responded so positively to our suggestion about making buying train tickets easier for Italian and Polish passengers”.

More than 100 Fast Ticket machines are in place at GNER-served stations.
