| Two new contracts for Angel Trains
|
PKP CARGO S.A. has signed a lease with Angel Trains for six multi-system electric locomotives. The TRAXX F140 MS locomotives are manufactured by Bombardier Transportation in Kassel, Germany with significant involvement of its Polish factory in Wroc?aw. The vehicles will be homologated for use on the Polish, German and Austrian rail networks. Thanks to an earlier forward procurement by Angel Trains, these locomotives will be delivered by the end of the year and then leased to PKP CARGO S.A. for a three-year term. With their 5.6 MW of installed power and various electrification and signalling systems, they will allow PKP CARGO S.A. to haul freight trains seamlessly between Poland and Germany, removing the need for a change of traction or operator at the frontier. These are the first series of modern, multi-system electric locomotives to be brought into service in Poland, which demonstrates PKP CARGO S.A.’s vision to remain one of Europe’s largest rail freight operators. “Access to multi-system TRAXX locomotives will strengthen PKP CARGO’s presence in the competitive European rail freight market and will enable the expansion of our service offering in terms of international cooperation” said W?adys?aw Szczepkowski, CEO of PKP CARGO S.A. Timothy Jackson, Executive Director of Angel Trains International, welcomed this transaction with an important new client in these terms: “We have been clear for some time that as one of Europe’s leading lessors of freight locomotives, we had to be present in the key Polish market. To this end, we have now bought almost thirty locomotives for this market – both diesel and electric, we have created a local subsidiary Angel Trains Polska Sp. z o.o. and we have a dedicated country manager Christopher Siewierski. This dedication and professionalism are typical of Angel Trains’ development, as is today’s success with PKP CARGO. We’re looking forward to working with PKP CARGO S.A. and wish our new client continued success in expanding its international operations.“ Also present at the signing event in Warsaw, Edmund Schlummer, President of Bombardier’s Locomotive Division: “We are delighted that Bombardier TRAXX locomotives - number 1 in Europe - will soon contribute to the success of PKP CARGO S.A. in the market of international freight transport. We are grateful to Angel Trains for its continued confidence in our TRAXX products”. ------------------------------- Angel Trains has also announced the recent conclusion of a lease with SNCB for the lease of 40 Bombardier* TRAXX* multi-system electric locomotives. Drawing on a mixture of locomotives already ordered for its portfolio and a further 35 additional units ordered to satisfy this large lease requirement; Angel Trains will deliver the forty locomotives to the Belgian national operator in 2008 and 2009. During the ten year term of the lease, SNCB will be deploying these locomotives on freight services in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, countries for which the four-voltage locomotives are homologated. Haydn Abbott, Managing Director, Angel Trains Group, welcomed this transaction in these terms: “From our base in Antwerp, it is fitting that our largest ever contract should have come from the Belgian railway, SNCB, with whom we are delighted to have transformed a small and recent contract into a large and long-term relationship. Together with Bombardier, we have provided a compelling combination of professional and flexible service and competitive economics, transforming the procurement philosophy of an important public sector railway”. SNCB’s CEO, Marc Descheemaeker, commented: SNCB’s CEO, Marc Descheemaeker, commented: “We are satisfied to be dealing with two companies which have demonstrated a high level of expertise, Angel Trains and Bombardier Transportation, and look forward to their active support over the next eighteen months, as we put this important fleet into service. This investment will allow B-Cargo to turn towards the international markets and to take an active part in the growing trade which will be generated by the harbour activities in the coming years”. Bombardier Transportation’s Locomotive Division President, Edmund Schlummer, stated: ”We are delighted that in yet another country, TRAXX locomotives have been chosen as the core fleet for freight traction. We are also pleased with the successful and ongoing partnership with Angel Trains.
