| These Walter Alexander/Barclay 'Pacer' sets emerged in 1985-86 and were originally used in the North East, but in more recent years, after major facelift operations, have settled down to work off Cardiff and are today operated by Wales & Borders and Wessex franchises. Painted in standard Regional Railways grey/blue livery set No. 143605 is seen at Treherbert working a Cardiff Valley service. This view is taken from the DMS end. The front end equipment on this fleet is the same as on the Class 142s. The box on the cab roof of the picture above shows the NRN radio pick up. CJM. |
| In support of Cardiff Valley services two Class 143 sets 143611/3 are painted in 'Valley Fundays' advertising livery, with light blue bodysides, light green solebar and orange window surrounds. Set No. 143611 is illustrated at Cardiff. CJM. |
| From 2000 a new Cardiff Valley livery was launched, of green, white and red, as shown on set No. 143606 at Cardiff Central. The new livery, also saw major internal facelift to sets with the original bus style 2+3 seating being replaced by high-back 2+2 seats and improved internal fittings. CJM. |
| In 2001, the Wales & West franchise, just before it was split into Wessex and Wales & Borders, agreed to the repainting of the non-Welsh Valley Class 143s into dark blue livery and apply pictogram advertising logos in support of Bristol. Set No. 143603 is shown at Bristol from its DMS end. CJM. |
