The first of the build, No. 180101 stands at Paddington on August 10. 2000, the first time the train visited Paddington. At this time set no. 180101 was being used for test running. It is a shame to record that 18 months later the sets had still not entered service. CJM.

Each Class 180 set carries an emergency coupling adopter, to enable connection to a conventional hook fitted loco. The emergency draw gear is seen attached to set 180101. CJM
