The AM8s or Class 308 fleet were another of the classic early 1960s design multiple units. No. 317, one of the batch built with a full parcels (MLV) coach in the set is illustrated in original BR green livery. The MLV vehicle is second from front. CJM Collection

Painted in BR blue and grey livery set No. 308156, one of the four car sets is seen approaching Dagenham Dock in September 1984. By this time the sets had all received a 'facelift' overhaul and gained twin marker lights on the front end in place of the former headcode box unit. The sets DTC vehicle is leading. CJM

The nine sets 313-321 were fitted with a full MLV (Motor Luggage Van), this had a normal guards office and van at the pantograph end with the remainder of the car set out as an open van, two pairs of double leaf hinged doors gave access on both sides. Vehicle No. 68011 is illustrated when new. CJM Collection.

After the introduction of Network South East, the grey, red, white and blue house colours were applied to the remaining Class 308s, shown here on set No. 308134. By the time this view had been taken a headlight had been installed centrally on the front. Darren Ford

For use on Regional Railways/WYPTE services on electrified lines radiating from Leeds, the Class 308s were given an overhaul at Doncaster Works and repainted in Regional Railways/WYPTE maroon/cream livery, off-set by a black cab window band. Internally the vehicles were all modified to open standard class seating in the 3+2 style. Set No. 308163 is seen at Leeds. All these sets were withdrawn in 2001. Darren Ford
