With its very pleasing body lines, a AM10 - Class 310 set is seen when brand new, painted in blue livery with a small yellow warning panel. This is the view from the DTC end. CJM
The Class 310s remained in BR rail blue livery through until the early 1980s when corporate blue/grey was applied. In the late 1970s after 4-character route displays were dispensed with two white dots were placed in the former headcode box until proper marker lights were installed. Set No. 067 is seen at Nuneaton. CJM
To provide identification of which end the first class seating was on a Class 310, an additional route indicator dot was provided at the first class end, as shown here on set 310049 painted in NSE livery. In common with the Class 309 units the wrap round cab windows were progressively replaced with flat units in the 1980s during the fleets facelift programme. CJM
After displacement from the LM by the introduction of more modern stock, the 310s were re-allocated to the Great Eastern and LTS sections, with a handful of sets remaining on the LM working in the Birmingham and Manchester area. Most of these sets were reduced to three car formations with the TC removed. Painted in Regional Railways livery, three car set 310113 is seen arriving at Stoke on Trent. CJM
