In its original as delivered condition carrying blue and grey livery, the pioneer set of production 1972 stock, No. 313001 is seen on a test run soon after delivery. It is interesting to note that a four character route indicator was provided in the non-driving route panel. The passenger doors at this early stage were 'self-started' with the passenger slightly pushing then to set off the air motor, these were later replaced by push buttons. CJM

After the launch of Network Southeast, this business sector's colours were soon applied to the Hornsey allocated fleet. No. 313048 in seen in the depot yard. The end doors on this stock were not provided for passenger use, but as an emergency escape for tunnel working. CJM.

The routes between Richmond and North Woolwich, Euston-Watford and Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction were taken over by the Class 313s after the previous stock was withdrawn. These routes were later taken over by Silverlink under privatisation and set refurbished. Carrying Silverlink livery, set No. 313103 approaches Kensington Olympia with a Willesden-Clapham service. Darren Ford.

The balance of the Class 313 fleet which operate on Great Northern suburban services are now operated by WAGN, but until 2002 no new identity had been applied. Most sets having been repainted into white base primer. A handful were however given advertising liveries in the late 1990s to promote the operators tickets or interchange facilities. No. 313060 is illustrated. CJM
