The pioneer set of the 4-car Class 315 fleet, No. 315801 is seen in as delivered condition painted in blue/grey livery with a yellow warning end. Originally these sets had a four-character route indicator above the non-driving window, these were later removed. Internally these sets were identical to the Class 313, 314, 507 and 508 fleets. | Painted in light blue NSE livery, complete with a BR logo behind the driving cab, set No. 315855 is seen at Ilford. These sets like all 1972 design units were fitted with fully automatic couplers. Units were attached by driving the two sets together which engaged a tightlock coupling and as this engaged a 'drum' opened below which revealed electrical and pneumatic connections. The coupling was completed by the driver pressing a coupling button in the cab. CJM |
| After privatisation and the take over of the Great Eastern suburban franchise by bus operator First Group, a new grey, blue, green and white livery was unveiled, the first set to be decorated in the new colours was No. 315809, seen here. All Class 315s are allocated to Ilford depot. CJM |
