The 1985-87 introduced Class 318 fleet for Glasgow area electrified network use were launched into service carrying the then new Glasgow Transport PTE orange livery, as shown on set No. 318261 at Glasgow Central. These sets are almost identical in construction to the Class 317/2s, but are three car sets with all standard class seating in the 2+3 style. CJM

By the mid 1990s, the Class 318s, still operating in the same area were given large SPT (Strathclyde Passenger Transport) branding on the body sides, together with yellow square's surrounding the door open buttons. After the formation of ScotRail under privatisation, the ScotRail logo was also applied. Set No. 318260 is seen approaching Glasgow Central. CJM

Following the introduction of the revised SPT livery on maroon and cream, this colour scheme was applied to the Class 318s, which probably suits the body style better than the original orange. Set No. 318256 is seen at Edinburgh (not in the Strathclyde Passenger area) working an Edinburgh-North Berwick service, a route which the sets now operate. CJM
