| The Class 322 fleet were introduced in 1990 specifically for use on the then developing Liverpool Street-Stansted Airport service. The sets based on the Class 321 had low-density seating and special luggage stacks to cope with demand. The sets were painted in a distinctive Stansted livery of white and green, as shown here on set No. 322481 at Kings Cross. CJM |
| After a short time working on their intended route, the Stansted Airport service was operated by other stock and the purpose built sets became common user sets within other NSE Class 321 stock. At privatisation the sets became spare and used for spot hire to any operator who needed additional stock. For a time some sets were hired to North Western Trains for their Manchester-Euston service, for which two sets were repainted into he North Western dark blue livery offset by a gold bodyside star. St 322484 is seen in this livery. CJM |
