At the time of writing this page (early 2002) this fleet of Alstom-built Class 334 'Juniper' sets were a major problem to operator ScotRail, with the project running well over one year late for introduction. The three-car sets are intended for Glasgow-Ayrshire routes, displacing other units which should render the Class 303 sets in Scotland to the scrap yard. The sets are high-density all standard class units and are operated by ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Passenger Transport. Set No. 334013 is seen at the Alstom test centre at Old Dalby. CJM
The intermediate vehicle of the Class 334s is the power collection and transformer vehicle, while the two driving cars are powered vehicles. This view shows pantograph car No. 74310 from set 334010. Passenger access is by two pairs of sliding plug doors, which to meet the latest disability regulations must be of a distinct nature against the rest of the coach. Obviously wishing to tell all who operate the trains, the middle vehicles carry a large legend 'Strathclyde Passenger Transport'. CJM
Many people have said the Class 334 interior is very cramped and that 'large' people have a problem walking down the central aisle. CJM
