| In original as built condition, 'Nelson' set No. 3113 heads for Portsmouth near Petersfield. These units were unusual in having the route indicator in place of the non-driving front window, this was dictated due to the fitting of a corridor front end. CJM Collection. |

| Led by 4BUF No. 3080, a down Waterloo-Portsmouth express traverses the Guildford New Line at Hinchley Wood. The Waterloo-Portsmouth express service was frequently led by either BUF/RES or GRI units when eight-car formations were operated.
