| Showing its original rail blue livery is the DTS of TC unit 404. As can be seen these second class vehicles were fitted with curtains and were very much a MU Mk1. Passenger access was by three slam doors on each side, two feeding direct into the seating area and the one at the inner end feeding a vestibule. CJM |
| After a short period of being painted in all-over rail blue the REP and TC stock were repainted into blue/grey main line livery, complete with full yellow ends, as shown here on set 404 leading a TC/TC/REP formation past Wimbledon on a Waterloo-Bournemouth/Weymouth fast service. From the front end the REP/TC stock could always be identified by a power jumper cable below the drivers side buffer. CJM |
| In normal use the REP 'tractor' sets were always coupled at the London end of formations, with the TC sets at the Bournemouth end which could easily be uncoupled and attached to a Class 33/1 for onward running to Weymouth. The REP sets with their high traction output, almost on par with a 'Deltic', were usually formed with the buffet vehicle as the third from the London end. Set 3013 is seen passing Worting Junction, Basingstoke. CJM |

The table was not a standard fitting, but was carried by some sets when new and was available if sets were used for charter work. On the right is the standard class interior using 2+2 low density style, with quality seats. Both: CJM |
