With a fully revised front end, modified before introduction due to coupling problems, set 460004, numbered '04' stand at Victoria awaiting departure to Gatwick Airport. These luxury 8-car 'Juniper' sets have a luggage van marshalled at London end of formations to cope with the large amounts of luggage carried on the Airport express operation. Trains are set out for first and standard class patronage with a low-density seating design. Sets are finished in a grey, white and red livery and are restricted to deployment on the Victoria-Gatwick route. CJM



The eight Class 460s, which form part of the Alstom 'Juniper' family are allocated to Stewarts Lane depot, where this view of set no. 460003 was taken. The streamlined front end is able to be opened to reveal a scharfenberg coupler for emergency assistance purposes, for which a modified Class 73/2 is retained. CJM




Class 460 'Gatwick express' interior, on the left is the standard class seating in the 2+2 style with good leg room and luggage space, the sets care carpeted throughout and a gangway provides full access throughout each 8-car set. On the right is the first class accommodation, set out in the 2+1 style with each seat having a table. Both: CJM
