ABB-built Class 465/0 No. 465038 is seen in the works yard at York. The four car all standard class suburban sets designed for Kent suburban operation as a replacement for the EPB stock were a major step forward in terms of passenger comfort. 2-bi-parting pairs of sliding plug doors are provided on the aides of each coach. Designated the name 'Networker' after the train operators Network SouthEast, the sets are very similar to the Class 456/2 sets build concurrent at GEC-Alsthom.CJM
After the original Class 465/0 built were finished at York a follow-on order for 57 sets was placed and these were classified as 465/1, the sets were the same in all respects as the Class 465/0 series. Set No. 465159 is illustrated. Between the bogies, electrical and control equipment is housed in pannier boxes and these are accessed by hinged doors, one of which is seen open. CJM
Concurrent with the Class 465/0 fleet being built by ABB, a batch of 50 sets, classified as 465/2 were built by GEC-Alsthom at Washwood Heath, Birmingham. Although deemed as identical to the 465/0s a number of detail differences exist, involving roof vents, window surrounds, door steps and underframe equipment. In ex works NSE livery, No. 465201 is seen inside the main factory at Washwood Heath painted in NSE livery. Some of these sets now sport Connex livery. CJM
