Class 02

This fleet of 20 Yorkshire Engine Co built 0-4-0s were the only shunting locos built for the UK with a varandah at the cab end, in more typical US style. Emerging in 1960-61, this fleet were painted in BR green from new and sported yellow/black wasp ends. The need for such small pilot locos soon disappeared and many were withdrawn after just a few years in service. Several past to industrial use. One loco No. D2860 is now part of the National Collection at York and is often used to act as museum pilot. Under the TOPS classification system this fleet became Class 02.
