Two 'Footex' specials operated for Doncaster Rovers fans between Doncaster and Cardiff on 1 April 2007. EWS provided the motive power. The first departure at 08.25 was formed of all ex-Virgin Trains Mk2s powered by EWS VIP '67' No. 67029. The train is seen awaiting departure from Doncaster complete with Doncaster Rovers headboard.

The Bo'ness Railway in Scotland has re-opened for the 2007 season, and LNER D49 class No. 246 'Morayshire' was the duty loco on 1 April 2007. This superbly restored loco is the pride of the lines fleet and a tribute to the railways restoration team.

One of the shortest ballast trains to so far visit the West Somerset Railway from Taunton operated on 2 April 2007, when just one ballast hopper wagon, one support wagon and two Class 66s Nos. 66525 and 66516 formed the train. The formation is seen near Bishops Lydeard.

Freightliner Heavy Haul delivered 18 loaded MJA bogie aggregate hoppers from West Wales to Tavistock Junction Yard on 4 April 2007. The train powered by Class 66/6 No. 66619 returned as the 13.52 Tavistock Junction - Swindon and is seen crossing Cockwood Harbour.

Class 67 'super-power' was the order of the day for the EWS Tilbury - Wembley 'Enterprise' service on 4 April 2007, when Nos. 67003, 67019 and 67025 operated the short service. The train is seen departing from Tilbury.

The first leg of the 'Easter Highlander' tour from London to Scottish destinations ran from London on 6 April 2007. Powered by DRS Nos. 37229 and 47802 the train is seen passing Whitecross.

With the warm summer weather in the UK over the Easter period many of the preserved railways had a bumper start of the season. On 6 April 2007, the 15.15 Kingswear - Paignton service on the Torbay & Dartmouth Line departs from Kingswear and heads for Churston, viewed from Dartmouth.

EWS deployed Class 37/4 No. 37422 on 7 April to power the 6D19 06.40 Warrington Arpley - Hoyhead and 6F18 14.50 return. The return working is seen passing through Flint with six wagons loaded with aluminium.

Top and tailed with Class 47s Nos. 47839 and 47812 a charter from London to the North Wales Coast on Saturday 7 April 2007 is seen passing a tidal inlet at Bagillt on its return run from Llandudno to London Marylebone.

A4 No. 60009 was the power for 'The Great Britain' tour from Glasgow to Inverness on 10 April 2007. In perfect light with a full rake of maroon stock the train is seen passing Blackford. It is a very long time since an A4 has traversed this route.

Due to engineering work on the West Coast, the overnight sleeper services from Scotland to Euston were diverted by way of the East Coast on the night of 8/9 April. One service is seen passing Huntington powered by 67005, 67006 and Class 90 No. 90034 dead in train.

The first visit to the West Country for Bardon Aggregates blue-liveried No. 66623 was on 12 April 2007, when it powered the 13.18 Neasden - Hackney Yard. The train formed of new FHH bogie hoppers is seen crossing Cockwood Harbour, Starcross .

A sight that in a years time will be history: a GNER unrefurbished HST Power car leading 13 April's up 'Highland Chieftain' past Park Farm, West Lothian. With the GNER franchise about to change, the dark blue and red colours might also oon pass into history.

Picture of the Day 15 April 2007

The return to London of 'The Great Britain' tour on 14 April was led by No. 57601 between Perth and London Kings Cross taking over from A4 No. 60009 and K4 No. 61994. This was the last leg of the 9 day tour which was steam hauled except between Bristol-Penzance and from Perth to London. The train is seen at Forteviot just south of Perth.

Over the Easter weekend 7/8 April 2007, The South Devon Railway returned Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT No. 1369 to traffic following a major overhaul and repaint into green livery. On 8 April 2007 the loco is seen with a demonstration freight at Nursery Pool.

After a gap of almost eight months the Earles Sidings - Moorswater cement operated on 16/17 April. The train was powered west from Bristol by brand new No. 66582 and is seen arriving at Liskeard on its return run from Moorswater prior to a run round of its load of 21 PCAs.

An amazing stock transfer move took place on 17 April 2007, when SWT owned 3CIG No. 1498 was top and tailed by SWT EDs Nos. 73201 and 73235 for a run between Wimbledon Park and Chart Leacon depots. The train is seen approaching Ashford.

DRS Class 37/6s Nos. 37602 and 37606 powered a Peterborough - King's Cross - Leeds - Skipton - Peterborough working on 18 April 2007. The train is seen at Cononley just outside Skipton.

Class 458 'Juniper' stock does not feature frequently as a POD. Since re-introduction of the Class 458 units by SouthWest Trains, they have settled down on the London to Reading diagrams and have recently had their gangway connections put back into staff use. Nos. 8024 and 8019 form the 12.42 service from Reading to London Waterloo at Staines on 19 April 2007.

Over the long weekend of 20-22 April a major diesel gala was held on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. One of the star attractions was blue-liveried 'Deltic' No. 55019. The loco is seen tackling Green End bank with the 12.50 Grosmont - Pickering on 20 April 2007.
