Picture of the Day 23 February 2010 We turn back the clock some 16 years for today's Picture of the Day. Over the years a number of images taken by all photographers have special meanings for one reason or another, one for the operator of this website is this view recorded at the re-opening ceremony and open day held at Old Oak Common depot on 19 March 1994, when a huge range of steam and diesel traction were put on display, loco naming ceremonies were held and the VSOE hosted a rail media lunch. With permission from the depot management, but to the concern of the photographers traveling companion this view was taken from the top of one of the depot lighting poles and shows the turntable area with ex-GWR 'King' No. 6024 about to be turned. |

Picture of the Day 24 February 2010 The Class 139 Parry People Mover units Nos. 139001 and 139002 used on the Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town shuttles are usually swapped over at Stourbridge Junction after the 14.07 arrival from Stourbridge Town each Thursday. However, due to problems with No. 139001 on Wednesday 24 February 2010, the changeover took place a day early. This is the scene in front of the imposing Stourbridge Junction Middle Signal Box as No. 139001 (left) prepares to move forward to the ‘engine shed’ as No. 139002 waits in the head shunt prior to moving forward ready to resume working services from Platform 3. Picture of the Day 28 February 2010 With snow still evident on the West Pennine hills in the distance, Class 156 unit No. 156421 crosses Burnley Viaduct over the Calder Valley on Saturday 27 February 2010, with the 13.50 Colne to Blackpool South service. The line North of Colne to Skipton closed in 1970 and is currently subject to a reopening campaign by the Skipton East Lancs Railway Action Partnership (SELRAP), and so perhaps one day motive power rather more exotic than the current diet of Northern Rail Class 142, 153 and 156 units will visit the line! |
