On 30 December 2006, BR Standard No. 80105 arrives at Bo' Ness with a lunchtime train from Birkhill. It was a bitterly cold day, but with stunning light with the grey murk and rainbow make this image.

Its all change at Aller, West of Newton Abbot, this view taken on 8 April 2002 can not be repeated today with the HST led by PC No. 43186 now in FGW blue livery and the two Class 150s repainted into FGW/Wessex colours. However all will soon change again with the introduction of 'dynamic lines' livery.

Cotswold No. 47828 operated light from Bristol SPM to Laira on 5 January 2007 to form train 5Z83 12.35 Laira - Bristol SPM formed of PC No. 43179, 44059, 6348, 10219. The train is seen passing Aller, Newton Abbot.

While First Great Western are unable to operate their full service due to a shortage of stock at least eight Class 158s and four Class 153s which were used by FGW prior to December are now dumped at the former Alstom Eastleigh Works. The view on 6 January 2007.

Overhauled by Bombardier Ilford, Class 442 5-Wes No. 2421 was returned to Bournemouth depot painted in a white livery with grey solebar band, red cab ends and doors with a yellow warning end. The set like the remainder of the fleet are due to go 'off-lease' with SWT this next weekend. Set 2421 is seen at Bournemouth Depot on 7 January 2007.

The Virgin Trains hire-in on a MML HST set continues with the 08.04 Birmingham-Edinburgh and the 14.05 Edinburgh-Birmingham being the present selected service for HST operation. On 9 January the set with PCs Nos. 43045 and 43007 passes Spittal near Edinburgh.

The Network Rail track test train traversed the L&SWR West of England line as far as Honiton on 10 January 'top and tailed' by DRS Nos. 37608 and 37602. The train is viewed west of Templecombe.

The first Class 150/2 to be re-liveried in First Great Western 'Local Lines' colours No. 150244 was released from Laira on 12 January 2007. The set is seen at Exeter Depot during the early evening.

A good quality prime f1.4 lens and a high ISO speed now allows some form of 'record' photography of trains on the move at night, this is especially useful to record historic or one off moves. On Saturday 13 January 2007, GBRf used brand new Class 66/7s Nos. 66726 and 66727 to 'top and tail' three refurbished FGW coaches as the 14.35 Derby-Laira. This was the first revenue earning train powered by a First Group-livered Class 66. The train is seen passing Dawlish at 20.50 with an exposure of 1/200 at f1.8 at 800iso.

Glasgow Underground 'Clockwork Orange' car No. 208 arrived at Alstom Glasgow for full refurbishment on 15 January 2007. The car is seen in the works yard after being transported across the City of Glasgow on the back of a road truck.

During the evening of 16 January the refurbished FGW HST set made a test run from Laira to Exeter and back. Led by immaculate No. 43125 the train is seen at Exeter St Davids awaiting return to Laira.

Today we show another of the re-liveried First Great Western-liveried trains. Local Line Class 150/2 No. 150244 is seen stabled at Exeter on 17 January. This set has yet to enter passenger service in this livery.

A special snowplough move was operated on 31 January 2007 from Inverness to Carlisle powered by 67002 and 37405 between a pair of ex Class 40 bogie ploughs. The move is seen at Forteviot crossing in Perthshire.
