One of the more interesting FirstGBRf workings of recent days was on Sunday 1 July 2007, when Class 87s Nos. 87022 and 87028 powered the 10.34 Willesden to Doncaster formed of a rake of new GBRf bogie coal hoppers. The train seen passing Newark.

The annual trip of the VSOE Pullman to the West Country takes place between 6-8 July 2007. On 6 July the train operated as the 09.45 Victoria - Truro, powered by No. 67013 it is seen passing Horse Cove, Dawlish.

All push together! BR Standard No. 76079 becomes the first BR Standard 76xxx 2-6-0 to be turned on the Swanage Railway turntable since the end of Southern steam in 1967. When on 6 July 2007 the loco visited the line was was turned on the manual turntable.

FGW/EWS Summer Saturday Specials from Bristol to Weymouth started running on 7 July and will continue until 25 August, formed of Mk2 stock 'top and tailed' by Class 67s. Pleasing the crowds on Carlisle station on 7 July 2007, LMS Class 8P No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland arrived with the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express from Liverpool, travelling outward via Shap and returning via Settle.

On 5 July 2007 West Coast Class 33/2 No. 33207 Jim Martin hauled inspection saloon Amanda on a visit to the Cambrian coast, the train is seen at Machynlleth waiting for the local service to arrive so it could proceed on to the coast line.

One of the most amazing workings of the year took place on 11 July 2007 when Class 37s Nos. 37410 and 37422 piloted No. 60082 on the 6M05 Roxby - Northenden 'bins' as far as Healey Mills. The trio are seen arriving at Healey Mills.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the English Electric Class 20s entering service and this weekend 14-15 July a major event is being staged at Barrow Hill with a gathering of many locos. In immaculate 1960s BR blue, No. 20087 is seen at Barrow Hill during a photo charter on 12 July.

Commencing on 20 July 2007 through passenger services will operate over the Minehead - Bristol route for the peak summer season at weekends. On 11 July the stock was operated from Oxley to Gloucester en route to Minehead. Powered by No. 31454 the stock move is seen at Eckington. Matthew Wilson

This past weekend has been the weekend of the Class 20, with a major static and operational Class 20 event held at Barrow Hill Roundhouse. Here three eras of '20' liveries can be seen with No. 20227 painted in Railfreight grey, with a pair of railblue and a green example to the right.

We turn the clock back 29 years for today's POD. On 1 June 1978 Class 25/0 No. 25011 awaits departure from Ayr with a 'SchoolX' additional service to Largs. Apart from electrification, Ayr station is much the same today.

Class 47 No. 47635 from the Swanage Railway has been hired by SECO Rail to train some of their drivers. On 17 July 2007, it run most of the day between Swanage and Norden light engine and here it makes a fine sight with 4 people in the front cab (a further 4 were in the rear!) as it arrives at Corfe Castle in some rare Summer sunshine.

Bulleid No. 34067 Tangmere powered a charter from London Victoria to Minehead on 18 July and is seen near Castle Cary. This is a real 'time warp' picture and with the full rake of green stock could have been taken some 40 years ago. The train returned to London powered by Class 50 No. 50049.

The main workhorse on 'one' local services are the Class 321 fleet, allocated to Ilford Depot in Essex and seen throughout the 'one' Railway operating area. Set No. 321303 is seen at Harwich Town on 19 July 2007 forming the 15.00 service to London Liverpool Street.

While the SWT 'Bubble' is temporary out of action
Class 158 No. 158889 deputised on a foliage inspection train from Salisbury to Exeter and Weymouth on 20 July. It is rare for a SWT livered 158 to traverse the Yeovil - Weymouth line, and it is seen leaving Yeovil Pen Mill on the outward run to Weymouth before its return to Salisbury via Yeovil Junction later in the day. UK Railtours 'Suffolk Latch' charter slowly picks its way down the Thameshaven branch on 21 July 2007 top and tailed by EWS Class 66s Nos. 66099 and 66100. The train later worked to Lowestoft before returning to London Liverpool Street. Charlie Robbins

It is many years since the UK has seen flooding to the scale of recent days. On Friday 20 July, EWS No. 59203 slowly passes Aldermaston bound for Westbury with an empty Mendip Rail train. This was the last service for over 24 hours to use the B&H route.

We turn back the date to 14 April 2000 today and see a triple-headed Class 37 train with Nos. 37077, 37037 and 37146 on a TGV Mediterranee construction train near Allan returning from Mondragon to Eurre. In the background two more '37' powered trains can be seen.

On Saturday 28 July 2007 Ex-GWR 'Hall' No. 4936 Kinlet Hall powered the 'City of York' special from Tyseley to York. The train is seen approaching Swinton station. After a few hours in York, the train returned to Tyseley.

Ex-GWR 'King' 6024 was used to power the 'Torbay Express' from Bristol to Kingswear and return on 29 July 2007. With no sun but bright conditions, the train passes ABP Teignmouth with the westbound working.
