Picture of the Day 9 June 2008 Over the weekend of 7/8 June 2008 the Motorail Logistics site at Long Marston was opened to the public with an excellent display of stored and withdrawn Class 86 and 87 locos, together with a handful of other classes. The highlight of the show was the superbly restored Class 87 No. 87002 Royal Sovereign owned by The AC Loco Group, which was displayed outside the main shed alongside NSE-liveried Class 86 No. 86401. No. 87002 is booked to be hauled from Long Maston to Crewe on Friday 13 June for testing at Crewe Electric depot before performing a main line trial to Carlisle at the end of the month. Now fitted with all modern safety requirements the loco will then return to full main line operation hired to GBRf for use on the Royal Mail flow over the West Coast Main Line. |

Picture of the Day 10 June 2008 On Tuesday 10 June 2008, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Severn Valley Railway to officially mark the reopening of the preserved railway after massive flood damage last year. The Royal Train transported the couple to the railway, Class 67s Nos. 67005/006 powered the train over the National Network, with 'King' No. 6024 taking over the train for the run over the Severn Valley Railway. The historic working of No. 6024 powering the full Royal Train is seen approaching Bewdley. |

Picture of the Day 13 June 2008 EWS No. 66008, hauling just re-instated Class 37/4 No. 37422 and 66122 pass Shawford forming the 6M44 12.29 Eastleigh Yard to Wembley on 13 June 2008. The Class 37 had just been released from Eastleigh after an exam and was being tripped to Wembley for use on a railtour (with 37401) on Saturday. |

Picture of the Day 15 June 2008 An excellent 'Mixed Traffic' gala weekend was held on the West Somerset Railway between 13-15 June 2008. The event saw the lines own diesel fleet operate alongside 'Warship' No. D832 from the East Lancs Railway and various locos from the South Devon Railways's diesel fleet. One of the headline events on the middle day was the 18.00 goods from Bishops Lydeard to Williton, which was powered by the lines Class 25 No. D7523 and several unfitted wagons. Coupled behind the Class 25 was 'Warship' No. D832 which had previously experienced engine trouble and was being returned to Williton depot. The train is seen passing Watersmeet between Bishops Lydeard and Crowcombe Heathfield. |

Picture of the Day 20 June 2008 The usual number of loco-hauled charters have visited Ascot this year for the annual Ascot race meeting. The largest number of trains operated on Thursday 19 June 2008 for Ladies day. The 'Stobart Pullman' was the highlight which formed train 1Z94, 08.14 Victoria to Ascot via Reading, and is seen on the approaches to Bracknell at Amen Crossing (now closed) powered by No. 47832. On the rear of the train was No. 47717. |

On Saturday 21 June, the train is seen passing Utrecht Overvecht station powered by ACTS 5811. On the rear is ACTS No. 1254. |

Picture of the Day 23 June 2008 The official re-launch of the First Great Western sleeper service between Penzance and London Paddington was held at Penzance on 23 June 2008. The entire coaching stock fleet and the four Class 57/6s have recently received a major £2m refit, with all hauled stock and two of the loco fleet now sporting the latest FGW Dynamic Lines livery. To mark the event a special daytime run of the sleeper service was operated, departing from Penzance at 15.10 to Plymouth to show guests, media and fund holders the stock and service provided. Power for the show train was provided by No. 57605 with No. 57602 on the rear. The demonstration train is seen at Plymouth. |

Picture of the Day 24 June 2008 The 3ft. 6in. gauge Great Orme Tramway (Welsh: Tramffordd y Gogarth) in Llandudno was originally opened on 31 July 1902. It is the only cable-hauled tramway still operating on British public roads, and is one of only three surviving systems in the world. On Monday 23 June 2008, Tramcar No. 5 ascends the steep (1:3.8!) incline along Old Road at the start of its journey from Victoria Station to Halfway Station. |
