Picture of the Day 1 June 2009 One of the most pleasing of the modern UK train liveries is that of Arriva Cross Country. When captured in good light the visual is quite stunning. On 31 May 2009, train 1M46, the 15.01 Birmingham New Street to Manchester Piccadilly, formed of Turbostar sets Nos. 170519 and 170520 vice the usual Voyager, and diverted via the mainline from Stafford to Crewe, is seen passing Heamies Farm. |

Picture of the Day 8 June 2009 Over the weekend of 6/7 June 2009 an open weekend was held by Motorail Logistics at Long Marston, where dozens of locomotives and hundreds of wagons could be inspected. One of the highlights of the show was recently repainted Class 50 No. 50035 Ark Royal into Loadhaul freight livery and renumbered to 50135. Love it or hate it, it makes people look. Sadly on the first day of the event heavy rain was a problem, but on the second day the weather improved with full sun for much of the day. Congratulations should be given to the team at Long Marston for arranging this event. |

Picture of the Day 9 June 2009 Class 153 units are unpopular on the West Midlands Snow Hill lines as their seating layout and door locations make them unsuitable for commuter trains. Nonetheless, they retain one diagram to maintain train crew traction knowledge. On the afternoon of Tuesday 9 June 2009, No. 153371 and Class 150/1 unit No. 150014 depart from Birmingham Snow Hill and pass St. Paul’s Metro stop with the 15.28 Dorridge to Stourbridge Junction service. |

Picture of the Day 10 June 2009 A slightly different location for our Picture of the Day today. A pair of twin VTA (Valley Transportation Authority) light rail cars stop at San Jose Diridon station in Northern California on 12 May 2009 forming a service from Winchester to Mountain View. San Jose Diridon is the interchange station between the VTA network and the CalTrain and Amtrak network, with this station adjoining the main San Jose station. The VTA network is a credit to its operators, being a spotlessly clean, easily accessible and efficient business. |
