Showing the split headcode box layout of the front end, No. 45006 is seen from its No. 1 end at Paddington, slightly off its usual operational area, working in on a relief from Birmingham, Although built with only vacuum train brake equipment, dual brakes were fitted by the early 1970s. CJM.

No. 45149 shown the 45/1 sub class fitted with electric train supply. The front end of this loco also sports two sealed beam marker lights in the position of the original headcode box and a headlight centrally mounted. The locos No. 1 end is nearest the camera. CJM.
