Class 53 See Technical Data

Painted in its original lime green and chestnut, No. D0280 with transfer name is seen at Finsbury Park during its period on working on the ECML. With its body housing two power units and generator groups, body side grilles were almost the same at both end and on both sides. The loco was fitted originally with vacuum brakes and steam heating. CJM Collection.

Showing its revised BR Brunswick green livery complete with cast Falcon name plate No. D0280 is seen at Stratford during testing after its classified overhaul in late 1964. The makers plate on the cab side carries the works number 280, from which its running number was devised. CJM Collection.

After being taken over by BR, Falcon was soon repainted in BR corporate rail blue as shown in this view of the loco numbered D1200 at Swindon. Under BR operation, Falcon operated for a short time from Bristol on passenger turns, but after electric train heat stock was introduced the loco became redundant as it was only fitted with steam heating. Falcon then went to Newport Ebbw Junction shed for freight operations.
