small fleet of three 0-4-0 tramway locos were built by Hunslet of Leeds
in 1955 and were powered by a Gardner 6L3 engine of 153hp. The locos
were originally fitted with side motion guards and cow-catchers on the
front as their work was on dock lines where the public had open access.
In later years the guards were removed when the fleet were used for
yard and depot pilot operations. No train brakes were fitted, speed
reduction and stopping was achieved by the locos direct air brakes.
The first loco of the build No. 11503, renumbered to D1953 is illustrated.
