CLASS 442 'Wessex'

Built in 1988-89 by BREL as replacement stock for the Waterloo-Bournemouth line and to coincide with the electrification through to Weymouth. The 24 5-car sets are based on the body structure of the Mk3 loco hauled and HST coach, but are fitted with sliding plug doors.
The sets were constructed in NSE livery, which after privatisation changed to South West Trains. All sets are based at Bournemouth and operate on the Waterloo-Portsmouth line as well as the waterloo-Weymouth route.
