Although obviously NOT a Dawlish Sea Wall picture, this view of the Virgin Trains Class 47 farewell train at Penzance has been included, to illustrate the train which passed along the sea wall on the morning of August 19. The author of this website was one of the guests of this historic run ad was therefore unable to take a view at Dawlish. The train, the 08.46 Penzance-Manchester was powered by blue liveried no. 47840, renumbered to 47077 for the event and 'more yellow' No. 47847. The train was formed of eleven Mk2 passenger vehicles and was full of enthusiasts. On route scenes which had never been seen before were encountered with thousands of photographers standing at every vantage point. In blazing sun the pair await departure from Penzance. CJM.
