The wonderful Cockwood Harbour, located midway between Starcross and Dawlish Warren, offers some excellent photographic views, especially when the tide is in. On July 25, 1999, 'Dutch' Transrail branded No. 37153 crosses over the harbour (with water present) while powering a return Paignton-Rhymney charter. CJM.

One of the gate houses of the Powderham Estate, provides the frame of this view taken from the Starcross-Powderham road. The Class 150/2 set is forming a Paignton-Exmouth service. Endless different views of the railway can be obtained in this area. CJM.

This is the view from the Gissons farm bridge, reached through the village of Exminster, looking towards Exeter with the M5 bridge in the background. The down Virgin Trains 08.15 Edinburgh-Penzance is formed of a VT liveried train with InterCity 'Swallow' power car No. 43159 on the front. CJM.

Two views of Exeter St Davids. On the left is the stabling point viewed from the station, with a Wales & West Central Wales liveried Class 153. On the right is Class 150/2 No. 150230 awaiting to depart from Platform 2 for Exmouth on July 7, 2001 with a Paignton-Exmouth train. Light is best for depot views in the morning, and the station view in the afternoon. CJM.

The Exeter end of Starcross station offers a good view of down trains in the afternoon, with the view improved if the waters of the River Exe are in. On April 13, 1998, Virgin Trains 08.05 Leeds-Paignton (Summer Saturday) service is powered by VTXC liveried No. 43092 while the coaches are still painted in the pre-privatisation InterCity colours. CJM

A huge number of different views can be obtained from walking around the picturesque Cockwood Harbour. This view taken from the Dawlish warren side on May 3, 1999, shows a Great Western Trains liveried HST, complete with 'Merlin' logo on the leading power car No. 43012. The train is the 11.33 Paddington-Penzance. CJM.
