New signs for First ScotRail

First ScotRail customers are being pointed in the right direction.

It has spent £210,000 providing every station across Scotland with posters with directions to town centres, taxi ranks and bus stops.

They meet a franchise obligation to have information at all stations to help passengers on their onward journeys.

New signs also include information on station facilities ranging from ticket offices to public telephones, toilets, car parking, information displays, cycle racks and CCTV.

A total of 113 stations have received two posters – one for onward travel, including an Ordnance survey map of the area, and the second detailing station facilities. Another 228 stations have a single poster combining both onward travel and the station information.

Transport Scotland funded additional signs at 22 stations with more than one entrance.

The programme will be concluded today (Monday 2 April) with signs at Glasgow Queen Street station.

Peter Williams, First ScotRail’s commercial director, said: “I am delighted the installation programme is completed. These posters will help our many customers and tourists alike, and are located close to the main entrance to stations.”

Heather Battson, Transport Scotland’s Rail Service Quality Manager, said: “Improving the quality of customer information is a vital part of the commitment we and our industry partners have made to enhancing the rail experience for passengers in Scotland. In particular, by providing better onward travel information at stations, people will see the railway as part of a wider integrated transport network that can meet their individual journey requirements.”
