| GNER introduces £5 ticket between Leeds and London
|
From Monday 16 April train operator GNER is slashing fares to only £5 between Leeds and London to attract more passengers, as extra services and seats are introduced on one of Britain’s busiest rail routes. More than 100,000 of the discounted tickets will be available over a two-week booking period, which runs from Monday 16 April to Friday, 27 April. The £5 tickets can only be purchased online at www.gner.co.uk for travel from 21 May. As well as benefiting passengers travelling to or from Leeds, the £5 single ticket also applies to GNER journeys between Wakefield Westgate, Doncaster, Grantham, Newark, Peterborough and London. From 21 May, GNER will launch 12 extra services – 6 in each direction – between Leeds and London, delivering a half-hourly frequency every weekday and creating an extra 1.6 million seats a year, or more than 30,000 extra every week. Intermediate stations will also receive a boost in services - Wakefield (12 extra), Newark (10), Doncaster (9), Grantham (7), Peterborough (6) and Stevenage (1). Jonathan Metcalfe, chief executive of GNER, said: “A £5 fare for the 186-mile journey between Leeds and London represents excellent value. We hope that this fantastic offer will help to stimulate extra demand as we launch a record number of services and seats on this busy route from next month.” GNER passengers can also enjoy the comfort and convenience of refurbished trains, an award-winning restaurant service and WiFi on the move.
