St Pinnock Viaduct Refurbishment October 2007 will see loco-hauled in Cornwall

A number of changes to the FGW timetable in Cornwall are to take place 00.01 Saturday 20 October and 23.59 Wednesday 24 October when the main line between
Liskeard/Bodmin Parkway and St Austell will be closed to allow refurbishment of St Pinnock Viaduct.

In addition the Newquay Branch will be closed all day on Saturday 20 October and on Sunday 21 October a footbridge east of St Austell Station will be replaced this will see special of working in the area.

Saturday 20 October and Sunday 21 October
A shuttle train will operate between Plymouth and Liskeard and Penzance and St Austell. Buses will operate between Plymouth and St Austell and Liskeard and St Austell calling at intermediate stations. Road transport will also operate on the Newquay Branch on the Saturday.

On Sunday 21October trains to and from St Austell will operate Single Line Working to / from Burngullow. This will reduce the number of trains that can operate west of St Austell which in turn will extend journey times between Cornwall and Plymouth and east thereof by up to 2.5 hours.

Monday 22 October, Tuesday 23 October and Wednesday 24 October
A shuttle train service will operate between Penzance and Par or Bodmin Parkway. Special workings will be introduced for trains running to / from Bodmin Parkway as they will use the up line in both directions between Lostwithiel East and Bodmin Parkway. The services terminating / starting from Par doing so enable EWS services to operate
to / from Fowey Harbour which need to acces the up and down loops at Lostwithiel to run round.

Liskeard will be served by trains from / to Plymouth or east thereof. Road transport will operate between Plymouth and St Austell, Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway, Lostwithiel, Par and St Austell and also on the Newquay Branch as the engineering block stops using a train service.

The amended train service west of the block will see the following trains :
Two HSTs
One Class 153 (Falmouth branch)
One Class 150 ( St Ives branch)
Two Class 150 (main line shuttle)
One Virgin Voyager.

First Great Western will be supplementing the number of trains available west of the blockade, and thereby minimising the effect on services on other routes, this will be acheived by hiring in from Riviera Trains a loco hauled rake of six Mk2s, standard class only, operated 'top and tail' by possibly CLass 67s or 47s. This will operate shuttles between Penzance and St Austell or Bodmin Parkway.
