Portsmouth engineering work update

Network Rail and South West Trains have said that work to complete the delayed upgrade of the signalling system in the Portsmouth area will be completed during the last week of October – between Wednesday 24 and Sunday 28 October 2007.

The work has been delayed because the installation and testing of the new signalling system was not completed because of problems experienced with the new equipment.

Replacement Services
SWT are now in a position to finalise alternative travel arrangements, service frequencies will be advised as soon as this information is available. In summary this will be as follows:

On Wednesday 24 October (until 21.10) buses will replace trains between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour.
From 21.10 on 24 October until 00.05 on Sunday 28 October buses will replace trains between Petersfield, Chichester, Fareham, and Portsmouth Harbour.
From 00.05 On Sunday 28 October, buses will replace trains between Haslemere, Eastleigh, Swanwick and Portsmouth Harbour.
Lines between Haslemere and Portsmouth Harbour will also be closed overnight on Thursday 25 October and between Swanwick / Eastleigh and Portsmouth Harbour on Friday 26 October.
