| Spruce up for Island Line stations
|
Passengers on the Island Line (operated by South West Trains) have been promised various station improvements thanks to a £200,000 investment. The stations on the eight-mile stretch of track will be repainted in the heritage colours of green and cream to enhance the line’s status as a community railway. New seats will also be installed so passengers can relax as they wait for their train. Additionally, Sandown and Ryde St Johns will have replacement shelters installed, while Lake will have non slip tread installed on the platform. Andy Naylor, Island Line General Manager, said: “This is a substantial and very welcome investment in the stations here on the Isle of Wight. The work will give long and lasting benefit and improve the stations for both our passengers and our employees. These are exciting times for passengers on the Island Line; what with our trains currently undergoing refurbishment and the planned investment for improvements at Ryde Interchange, things can only get better for rail users here on the Island.” |
