| New travel centre for Hull Paragon
|
| A new, purpose-built travel centre opened its doors to rail passengers at Hull Paragon station on 6 July 2007.
The new office has replaced the travel facility on the main concourse and is a focal point for customers who need information or want to book tickets. The centre is part of the £16m transport interchange being constructed alongside the £200m St Stephen’s development, funded by ING developers under the direction of Hull Citybuild, Hull City Council and Yorkshire Forward. The old travel centre site will be converted into new public toilets, with baby-changing facilities, and a waiting room, with level access for disabled people. Alongside the five sales positions for train travel, the new centre includes bus travel and information when the new interchange opens this autumn. In the first few days of opening, extra staff will be on hand to provide information and help with ticket sales. John Haymes, development director at Citybuild said: “This is the first part of the new travel centre in Paragon Station and is great news for the city as it will provide significant benefits for the public. We are nearing completion of a fully integrated Transport Interchange that is a state-of-the-art public transport facility which will be the envy of many other cities.” Station manager for Hull, Dean Lancaster, said: “This is an exciting time for First TransPennine Express, and we are delighted to be involved in the development of Hull Paragon transport interchange. We are committed to improving the services available for passengers of public transport and think they will appreciate the new travel centre.” The opening hours for the centre will be from 05.45 to 20.00 from Monday to Saturday, and 08.30 to 19.30 on Sundays. Network Rail was also involved and instrumental in agreeing to the development of the project. |
