| Brunel lives on
in Truro
|
Residents of The Sidings, a new housing development in Truro, will have a lasting reminder of the heritage of the area, thanks to a new road name – Brunel Court, after the founder of the Great Western Railway, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The name has been chosen by train company First Great Western and Wainhomes to celebrate the fact that the development is built on land that used to be part of Truro Railway Station. The Sidings is within walking distance of Truro Railway Station and features 69 plots of two, three and four bedroom properties. Wainhomes has continued the railway theme one step further by naming some of the house types after Great Western Railway Chief Engineers - Dean, Collett and Gooch. Julian Crow, First Great Western’s Stakeholder Manager for the South West, said: “It is great that there will be a lasting reminder of the land’s former use. Many of the people buying the houses now will know the history of the area but that may not be the case in years to come as the houses get sold on. The name Brunel Court will leave them in no doubt about its railway heritage.” Adrian Dyer, Wainhomes South West Sales and Marketing Director, said: “As the development is built on former station land and is next door to the station we wanted to make sure that there was a railway connection with the street name and the house type names, so we were delighted when First Great Western approached us and asked if it could help.” Wainhomes South West is Cornwall’s biggest house builder and was recently awarded the best regional builder for quality in its category by the NHBC for the fourth year running. The NHBC has recognised the company with Pride in the Job awards for six years running and its developments have been awarded Seals of Excellence for the last five years. |
