Gat-Ex Class 460 works through Kent

A new era in Gatwick Express Class 460 stock maintenance commenced on Monday 11 June 2007, when the first set operated under its own power from Stewarts Lane (London) to Chart Leacon for a C6 overhaul. In the past this work has been undertaken by Eastleigh Works which has now closed.

The first unit to visit Chart Leacon was set No. 460004, which departed from Stewarts Lane at 10.00 and was routed via Sevenoaks, the overhaul will take two weeks with the set due to return to Stewarts Lane on 22 June. Special route dispensation had to be given by Network Rail for these moves.

Although it is still planned to merge the Southern and Gatwick Express franchises, major investment has recently been authorised at Stewarts Lane to provide an improved working environment for Class 460 daily maintenance.
