| 20 years of Cambridge electrification marked
|
‘one’ railway marked the 20th anniversary of electrified train services running between Cambridge and Bishops Stortford on 11 May 2007. Members of the station team at Cambridge station who worked through the transition from a diesel to a much greener electric railway including Duty Manager Graham Ellingham – who was involved in the electrification project - visited Cambridge station on Friday 11 May 2007 for a photocall at 10.30am to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the start of electrified train services which commenced on 11 May 1987. ‘one’ railway now operates over 80 train services each day on the Cambridge to Bishops Stortford / Liverpool Street route and train service performance is continuing to improve – the latest four-weekly performance period recorded punctuality of 93.3% and this continues the trend of delivering 90% plus punctuality over recent months. Perry Ramsey, ‘one’ railway’s Business Director for the West Anglia route said: “We’re pleased to commemorate 20 years of running electrified train services from Cambridge. The Cambridge to London line is increasingly important for both the commuter and leisure traveller and the popularity of the Lea Valley route continues to build amongst tourists and daytrippers alike.” Patrick Hallgate, Network Rail Anglia Route Director said: “I’m delighted to be celebrating the anniversary of where we brought about a cleaner and more modern service for those travelling from Bishops Stortford to Cambridge. Twenty years on, travelling by rail has never been so popular and we are continuing to invest heavily in the region’s rail network to provide a 21st century rail service which I hope we can all celebrate in years to come.” |
