‘one’ railway has restored the historic name of Walton-on-the-Naze on the station signs at Walton-on-the-Naze station when new signage is officially launched at the station on Tuesday 8 May at 11.00am by local musicians The Onion Band. The station has been named Walton-on-Naze for many years and ‘one’ railway has taken the plunge by deciding to at last give the station its full proper naming by adding the ‘the’ to the signage. The Onion Band who have written and produced a song about the train journey to Walton-on-the-Naze joined ‘one’ at the station to officially unveil the new signage. Onion Band lead vocalist Pug Rayner said: "I am delighted that ‘one’ railway have taken this opportunity to correct the town name on their station signs. Let's hope it's the start of a trend. Now the tannoy announcements can really say, "You have to change at Thorpe-le-Soken for Walton-on-the-Naze. It has a nice rhythm to it.” Andrew Goodrum ‘one’ railway’s Business Director for the Mainline route said: “Restoring the correct signage at Walton-on-the-Naze station is indicative of ‘one’ railway’s commitment to listening to the wishes of local communities and working with them. It is marvellous to have the Onion Band helping us to celebrate this milestone.” |
