New gateway for the Isle of Wight

Work has started on a new £6.2 million transport interchange in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, following the government go-ahead in September.

The largest project of its type ever undertaken on the island, the new building will provide pedestrian-friendly and easy access to the island’s train, ferry and bus services.

Award-winning London Eye architects Marks Barfield Associates designed the interchange. Ryde is a busy transport gateway with the Fast Cat high speed ferry from Portsmouth Harbour arriving at Ryde Pier Head and the terminal for the hovercraft from Southsea located at Ryde Esplanade.
