Christmas/New Year works on Brighton Line

Network Rail will be undertaking essential upgrade work to the track at Earlswood, Surrey, between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.  This work will affect rail travel to and from Gatwick Airport and to other destinations on the Brighton Main Line and beyond from Saturday 23 to Saturday 30 December 2006 but particularly on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 December.
 
An overview of the likely service is noted below:
Saturday 23 December
Two of the four tracks at Earlswood will be closed therefore a revised Saturday train service will operate between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. There will be a replacement bus services operating between Redhill and Horley serving Earlswood and Salfords and also between Redhill and Godstone. 
 
Sunday 24 December
A revised Sunday train service will operate between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. There will be a replacement bus services operating between Redhill and Horley and also between Redhill and Godstone. Please note; as usual for Christmas Eve, last services will be earlier than normal. 
 
Monday 25 December
No Southern services will operate.
 
Tuesday 26 December
No Southern services will operate except the usual Boxing Day ? hourly Victoria to West Croydon service.
 
On Wednesday 27 & Thursday 28 December
All four tracks at Earlswood will be closed therefore the following services will be in place:
 
• We will operate a train every ? hour between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport in 90 minutes and Brighton in 120 minutes. This train will operate via an alternative route and provide a connection at Horsham for stations to Chichester and Worthing, and a connection at Three Bridges for stations to Lewes and Eastbourne.
• There will be a bus provided from Redhill serving stations to Three Bridges to cater for passengers from London Bridge, East Croydon and intermediate stations. Please note the bus will only serve Gatwick Airport south bound, passengers from Gatwick Airport should travel by train to Three Bridges to catch the bus.  Passengers from Croydon can avoid the bus if they use West Croydon station and change at Sutton to pick up the diverted train.
• We will operate a train every ? hour between London Victoria and Redhill to serve the intermediate stations.
 
To accommodate diverted trains between London Victoria, Gatwick Airport and Brighton, it has been necessary to reduce train services Between London Victoria, Streatham Common, West Croydon, Sutton, Epsom and Dorking.
Boxhill, Holmwood, Ockley and Warnham will be served by alternative road transport.
 
Friday 29 and Saturday 30 December
Two of the four tracks at Earlswood will be closed but not affecting platforms. Therefore a reduced Saturday train service will operate but will be able to serve all stations, and so there will be no need for replacement buses.
 
The train service and bus replacement details are currently being finalised and will be on our website nearer the time.   
 
Other train operators using this line will also be running alternative services, please check their websites for more details nearer the time.
