GNER to run extra services this weekend to meet demand

GNER is to run five extra services this weekend in order to meet extra demand from the Edinburgh Festival and to accommodate passengers switching from air to rail travel.

On Saturday (19 August) GNER will run the following additional services:
10.40 from King's Cross - Newcastle, will be extended to Edinburgh Waverley, arriving at 15.25.
An additional 12.40 departure from King's Cross, calling at Doncaster (14.12), York (14.39), Newcastle (15.51) and arriving at Edinburgh at 17.25.
On Sunday (20 August) the following extra services will run:
11.45 Edinburgh to King's Cross, arriving at 16.31 (normally starts as 13.20 from Newcastle).
15.45 Edinburgh to King's Cross, arriving at 20.37 (normally starts as 17.10 from Newcastle).
An additional 12.45 departure from Edinburgh, calling at Newcastle (14.15), York (15.15), Doncaster (15.40) and arriving at King's Cross at 17.25.

Since the heightened security alert at airports on Thursday, 10 August, GNER has already run 11 extra services between Edinburgh and London, relieving pressure on Edinburgh and Newcastle airports where dozens of domestic flights have been cancelled, although the position is now improving. These additional train services have enabled thousands of people to complete their journey in comfort, without being stranded or having to face lengthy delays at airports.

GNER has said it will continue to monitor any increased demand for its services and will attempt to meet it where possible.
